Paul et al- we need to get baseline b/w usage statistics before we upgrade to any additional bandwidth unnecessarily. Especially Clear- i have 2 collegues on clear and they hate it but cant get out of their contracts. I could borrow one of thier USB's and bring my laptop out to church to test clears signal in Lawrenceville!
Back to bandwidth:
There is a free program i have used in the past called MRTG. you can run it on the SBS2003 server (or a spare laptop for that matter), and it pulls read only SNMP community strings from the Cbeyond Cisco Router installed. Cbeyond should be able to provide the read only info for thier router our create us one. this program will tell us current actual up/down usage, 95th percentile and peak usage. this will help us guage if we need more before implementing any SaaS type services or not. then we can run usage tests after google apps and compare to baseline to see if we need to upgrade circuit. it will also allow us to guage b/w needs if we roll to ACS SaaS or powerchurch SaaS.
We also might be able to request a b/w usage report for the last month or 2 from Cbeyond directly (you can with ATT).
Its been a while since i have setup one up but could figure it out again with you if needed. Here is the link to MRTG and a how to setup guide: oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/ and how to set it up as a service in windows: oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/doc/mrtg-nt-guide.en.html
If we cant get Cbeyonds com string, we could always use the Cisco PIX501 Firewall (assuming they still have it).
let me know your thoughts.
ps- also good free tool is scrutinizer for network analysis (like a fluke or wireshark)
Scrutinizer is a network monitoring tool that allows users to analyze network traffic using NetFlow and sFlow. Scrutinizer diagnoses traffic congestion by displaying which hosts are using the most bandwidth and what applications they are using. www.plixer.com/products/netflow-sflow/free-netflow-scrutinizer.php
